From liberation to stewardship

In the animal rights movement, there is a tension between liberationists and welfarists; work for the total release of animals from slavery or campaign for incremental steps to improve their lives. In other words, bigger cages VS empty cages.

Liberation are considered the extreme, but it is actually a very, very-very moderate ethical approach. It practically says, "We'll get animals out of the cages and good luck to all of you out there in nature". We will liberate you from human domination, but we take no reponce-ability for the suffering you endure from many other species or natural causes. I think the animal rights movement needs to go from liberation to stewardship, which is understanding we need to take care of animals, wherever they are. Fortunately, the movement seems to be going in this very direction 😊, though the whole wild animal suffering topic is still pretty esoteric.
