AI is a huge opportunity to help reduce suffering

I think about the AI space as comprised of 3 parts:
- AI as a tool:
- Usage, accessibility, automations, etc.
- Creating custom AI tools for advocates, finetuning AI models for our usage, creating interfaces for usage of AI agents, etc.
- AI as a societal force:
- Promoting specific AI applications for good, such as decoding animal communication, and inhibiting/regulating harmful applications, such as Precision Livestock Farming (PLF), which could exacerbate animal suffering in factory farms.
- AI as a moral agent. What values, what ethical behavior principles, will guide this new digital species, which may control earth in a few decades?
We need to work on all of them. Very roughly, it seems to me that the scale of impact goes up from 1 to 3, but tractability goes down. The AI revolution is a game changer, for good or for bad. The cards are being dealt again, and we have to stand up and reimagine our activism in the AI era.
